Are you chicken – wire?

When I saw her for the first time last fall I was smitten, I knew I had to put my arm around her – thank goodness Chrissy had a camera. She was too great a temptation, sitting there all pretty in her tutu and high heels, not to have it captured on Facebook. Who cares if she’s chicken wire and screen door materials – she spoke to me.
She actually spoke to a lot of people I discovered while helping my friends at Oeno Gallery last week at the Interior Design Show in Toronto. I’ve been trying, recently, to spend more time in the businesses I work with and was excited at the chance to help out at the trade show Oeno was participating in. What an amazing experience, the show was actually the best trade show I’ve ever attended – man do interior designers know how to set up booths! The crowd was interactive with our art work and kept us busy all day. I can testify at this because of the interest of the crowd and because Oeno represents a lot of incredible artists.
The piece pictured above and mentioned in the article on www.yourhome.ca was actually photographed and texted about more than any other occurrence I’ve ever witnessed. In the 7 hours I was there I saw dozens upon dozens of people have there picture taken with her and countless others talking about her live – online with their iphones and smart phones. It really reinforced to me that you can not ignore the power of social media. From the hash tags of the show commenting on the metal girl and the other experiences of the show, it really shows that the voice of the people is being shared in real time and being heard live. If you’re not on this wagon I suggest you hop on at the next stop.
The work being shown is by Sophie DeFrancesca and others like it are available at Oeno Gallery.
