Just in time for the tourist season here in the County a new breakfast/lunch café has opened up in Picton. Situated in the historic Gilbert and Lighthall building in a room that used to make furniture and coffins this great little café features an in credible “home-grown” menu that samples some of the best local food our area has to offer. Since opening Vivy and I have been numerous times trying something different on the menu each time – try the buckwheat waffles.

The owners Graham and Vicky approached Scout in the early spring to begin work on their identity, the name Chesterfield’s was already chosen. It was names so to reflect the homey atmosphere they were going for in their establishment.

Graham’s challenge to us was to come up with an identity using a chesterfield (not a sofa, yes they are different) as a logo or visual element . So the team at Scout went to work creating logo options, the winner turned out not to be a sofa at all but rather a chesterfield reference. The identity was a lot of fun and when you see it applied to the space it’s really cool, from the banners outside, the sandwich board, canopy, business and rack cards and my favourite piece in the group, the table tops. The table tops are covered with the same button fabric pulled pattern from the rest of the materials giving the customer a soft cushion 3d effect of the surface – a little trippy but fun.
